Default 99 ls1 purchase

I have found a reposesed 99 ls1. black leather. auto bose stero t tops. 140k miles. back tires burned off. driller and sloted rotors. It apparently has headers. There are no cats and has i think slp loudmouth exhaust.needs new pads. had new radiator put in. The front right fender and hood doest line up very well. The body and interior is REALLY clean tho. They're asking 3995. Do you think i'd be an *** trying to go down to 3200?

Should i worry about the ls1 being to much an a ***** to fix if something would go wrong. I'm not even gonna put insurance on it till winter is over. So i've got time to work on her. I'd like to put Fast intake, throttle body, slp intake, and maybe a cam if it's worth it. Or would i need to spend my money in building the engine back to just support some abuse.

If so. Will sway bars on my 94 v6 swap over to this 99? Adj. Panhard bar? Shocks struts fit with v8 springs obviously? I would like to buy it... over the winter swap as many things over as i can and sell the v6 for dirt *** cheap jus to get rid of it. Looking for any help. Thanks guys. Even a What would u guys do...

The engine is not what i would worry about. That is high millage but the LS1 is a very durable engine and if it has been well maintained you will be ok. The transmission may be a issue if it has had the crap run out of her. The LS1 is not a hard engine to work on since it pulls its line from all push rod small blocks. The LS1 is made for cam swaps and responds very well to even mild hot cams. The factory LS1 intake manifold and TB are not restrictive and you might be better off spending your money else where right now.

Ok. That makes me feel alot better. espeicially coming from you. I always trust your word cbr. How difficult is it would swap a 6 speed in? Or do an auto build? What mods would you do to that car. It has full exhaust. I do enjoy the corners so suspension will be part of my mods too. But i would like to come out next year with a 12 second car. a mild cam and gears get me there with the slp intake?

You should plan on swaping out your valve springs when you swap your cam even if its only a hot cam. The 6 speed swaps are not really worth it unless you are doing the swap your self as the labor can get just as expensive as the parts. The 4L60 is a great transmission as long as you dont have extream launch or power needs. On the other hand if this car is still runing the factory transmission and its been run hard it could be showing its age but if it was in good condition you would be safe well into the 400s and considerbly more then that built. You can also swap the auto 4L80 and TH350 and TH400 if you power needs are higher.

If the trany is good then a good set of 275 nitto's 555R's or MT's are alwase a good investment and will help you keep your times consitant at the track. With good traction and the bolt ons you already have plus a lid, mild cam swap with maybe 3.73s should put you into the 12 with no problem with a bit or room to spare

awesome. Also would a lightweight flywheel be worth the investment? Unless the tranny goes out i guess ill just keep the auto... UGH... but ill go drive it monday. And try and bargain with them. The body and interior is real nice so i think it's a good find for under 4k. Even if the engineor tranny ****s out ill still have room to spare as far as money and what the cars worth. Thanks guys. hopefully i will be back on monday night asking what mod i should do first. lol

If the car does not have a lid and is running a full exhaust from the headers back then that should be your first mod with out a question next to buying new tires of course.
