Default Need help with LT-1 383 purchase

I have not had a LT-1 for 11 years. There are things that I remember, but I don't want to buy someone's problem. There is a 93 Z for sale. It has...

"Forged crank, pistons. rods.compcams xfi 292 cam and hardened pushrods, full roller rockers, hyd roller lifters Over sized valves 1.75 exhaust 2.02 intake new guides and seats. ported heads, and intake. 58mm throttle body.42lbs svo injectors. 3000 rpm stall rated for 650 hp.new 700r4 trans. 250 miles on new motor and trans pacesetter longtube headers, true duals with xpipe. car runs but needs a after market oil pan to clear the stroker kit."

The part in quotes is the actual ad on craigslist. My question is could there be severe damage from the oilpan hitting the crank? Is this even worth looking at? I can buy the car for 3000. I know that a build like this cost much more. I just don't want it to turn into me doing everything over and spending 2x the money. Any help would be great!

i would be iffy about buying that, i spent 3k when i bought my camaro and it didnt have any engine mods except cai and catback and it wasnt in the greatest shape. are you able to see the car personaly and drive it? i would never buy a car unless i was able to drive it, maybe even have it scaned for codes.

and why is it up for sale with only 250 miles on it? hard to believe someone would do that kind of work on a car and sell after that short of a time unless something went wrong. could need the money bad or not. did the oil pan go up against the crank or did the crank go into the pan. he could have put the wrong pan in. if i remember right it needs a deeper pan for the stroke.

The guy said there was a hollow "thump" sound, went away, then came back. So the mechanic said it was most likely the pan. He ran out of money, and now doesn't have a job. Just needs some cash... If I can't just throw a pan on this and run it, I don't think I want it. Is there any think that could have been damaged? Like the crank, rods? etc?

not from hitting the pan. something hitting the pan should make more of clang noise. thump noise sounds like a trans mount to me. it would be something to look at. closely. if all it needs is a trans mount then thats like 20 bucks. but if its a internal part in the motor thumping,,, i dont know thats ive ever head a motor thump except a missfire. now a bang, wham, knock, and tick ive heard.

Just got back from looking at the car. it's a very loud knocking sound. Almost like a rod, but it has good oil pressure... the kid is out of money and wants to cut his losses. The car is in ok shape. I just don't know!

assume the worst and consider the motor toast.

tell him you want it inspected before buying it and take it to a dealership or a performance shop and pay for the estimate and no if the crank was hitting the pan it shouldnt cause any damage but to the pan, you should be able to get down there and see a bulging on the pan if it was hitting it

will you be out of money after the purchase?

bear in mind that if there was nothing wrong, and the car is in decent shape, it would have been long gone. I don't need another car but if i stumble upon someone in hard times with a rebuit vehicle for $3k, I'm adding to my garage.
