Welcome to the Forum. A Camaro is a bit of both. The original Muscle car was a big engine in a smaller body. With the advent of the Mustang, a sports car for the everyman, a newer way of thinking was devised. When Ford put the 390 in the Mustang, everyone followed suit. Camaro 396, Firebird 400, etc. This created the sporty muscle car.

True Sports Cars are two seaters. The Stang and Camaro are Pony cars, which is kind of a muscle car in that it is a smaller car with a biggish engine. Most of the Pony cars were small blocks, to me a true muscle car car is a mid sized sedan with a big block engine, think Chevelle, GTO, Charger etc.

Then what exactly would You call a SS396 Camaro or a Hemi "Cuda? "Pony" car is a term coined by the media to use on every car in the Mustang competition, Hence the "pony" ( Mustang ) term, They're still considered Muscle cars by everyone else. A sports car for the average guy or girl is what Lee Iococca said He designed the Mustang for in a recent interview. I think taht the father of the Mustang should know. ...................Just a comment.

I would say a muscle car. Sports cars don't rattle windows.
