02 Z28 water in floor board
Can anyone give me any suggestions with this. I have an 02 Z28 and anytime it rains the driver side floor board gets drenched. the floor mats dont get wet just underneath the mat. there is a spot on my door panel right where it meets the dash pretty much when the door is closed that looks like water was dripping on it but I put a shamwow there for a day when it was raining and it didnt get wet. I have been putting it under my floor mat to try to absorb the water but it is just too much for it and I have easily rang out about a gallon of water from the rag in the last 2 days. the t tops are nice and tight and arent leaking at either so thats why im baffled as to where the water is coming from. i did read it could be the windshield seal that is bad and it may be leaking from that under the dash on to the floor but I would think my floor mat would be wet also but it isnt. anybody have any ideas i dont want all this constant water to ruin the carpet in the car or for that matter any wiring that may be under it.
Love water leaks.
The windshield or cowl can both be a cause, and if it is leaking down the firewall it will not drip onto the floor mat.
To find a water leak you will need to expose the car to the water, such as rain or a garden hose with some one in the car with a flashlight and a keen water sense.

I kind of thought that might be the situation I get the feeling that its my windshield seal because on the driver side it looks as thought the wiper bezel is pulled away from the windshield some unless it is supposed to be that way cause the passenger side is a little but not as much as the driver side because its not really that bad but its just enough that if that is where it is coming in it could cause the problem if the stupid weather would start getting warmer and not only for one day i could possibly get out there and do just that with the hose but until it gets warmer I guess im just gonna have to deal with it. I also read somewhere else there are three plugs inside one up front one sort of in the middle and one in the rear seat pan or near it somewhere that the seal around could have broken and may be allowing water in so I may be pulling the carpet up when I get an opportunity to also. I did read somewhere that there is another one of these plugs near the wheel wells im not exactly sure where they are talking about but maybe someone here can enlighten me as to where these plugs are.
This could also be the door if the vapor barrier is not sealed down good enough. It will leak in at the sides of the cowl or bottom moulding.
Also check for the leaks at low spots first and then move up. It is hard to find where a leak is when you start from the top and work down. Also check where the wires come into the cowl in the door jamb. There should be a vent hole in the body below this point but if it is clogged the water will fill up and spill over the access holes in the side of the cowl. You should be able to see this if you remove the kick panel.

ok so this is gonna sound dumb coming from a car guy but where exactly are these cowels im getting a little confused if you dont mind taking som pictures for me to see where your talking about that would be much appreciated. and actually im going to check my windshield also but if you dont mind also taking a picture of how flat the top edge of the wiper bezel is to the windshield on yours right by the corner near the side view mirrors I looked at mine and it looks like they are somewhat pulled away a little but Im not familiar with how they are supposed to be placed against the windshield and seeing someone elses that doest have the problem would really help a ton cause im not sure if its on right or not.
The cowl is the area of the car below the windshield, above and to the sides of the firewall, after the engine bay and before the passenger compartment. It holds the door hinges, wiper mounts, wiper motor, some wiring and usually has air intake passages for vents or your heater-A/C.

ah ok i see where your talking about and actually I think I may have found the problem I didnt think it was the t top before but I took a look at it again anyway and discovered that the gasket on the outside that overlaps the the t top gasket was folded under on the front corner of the t top and the back corner so i pulled it out the way it was supposed to be so we will see if this fixes it or not it may have had just enough space to get in and roll down the inside of the pillar to the floor or something hopefully it was just that simple and nothing more of a pain.
well no luck at this point Ive tried everything I can think of and still getting a wet floorboard. I pulled part of the carpet up after taking the kick panel and pilar molding off and found that one of the holes in the body under the carpet is actually browning the carpet under the kick panel right where the hole is. So i am wondering if Massey you were right that there is something clogged in the cowel that I cannot see thats allowing water to get down to where the hole is and as it is filling up it is just spilling over under the carpet. I took some stip caulk and put it over that hole the other day and I cant relly tell if its helped or not at this point because it was still drenched the day after I put that in and it hasnt rained since that day (two days ago) here but the floor panel is still wet. I used a wet vac and a hair ddryer to try to suck some water up and dry it out but its still too drencehed to tell so I don't know if covering that hole worked or not. I am going to have someone do the hose trick and I will get under the dash with the carpet pulled up and see if I can find the leak but I have to wait for warmer weTHER AGAIN YET. hopefully that will come soon. If anyone else has run in to this and found something out of the ordinary that fixed the problem let me know. at this point I am just trying to keep my floorboard from rusting out.
