Thumbs down Utah "Brain Trust" to ban all aftermarket exhausts?

Bone headed need for more laws, for more laws sake?

Is the Utah legislature moving to ban all aftermarket exhausts?

According the SEMA Action Network, a bill has been introduced in Utah that will
"ban the use of aftermarket exhaust systems." The organization is urging people
to contact Utah Senators immediately to protest the substitute bill (S.B. 106),
introduced by Senator Patricia Jones, for the following reasons:

S.B. 106 ignores the fact that aftermarket exhaust systems are designed to make
vehicles run more efficiently without increasing emissions.
S.B. 106 does not supply law enforcement with a clear standard to enforce,
allowing them to make subjective judgments on whether or not a modified exhaust
system is in violation.
S.B. 106 fails to recognize that aftermarket exhaust systems offer increased
performance, which can make a vehicle safer by improving its ability to merge,
pass, travel uphill, etc.
S.B. 106 would make it difficult for hobbyists to replace factory exhaust
systems with more durable, better performing options.

Might want to fix that link, man. It doesn't work~

We're looking at cracking down on it around here; mostly for noise reasons and it's focused on motorcycles. I'm personally not too concerned because it's just as irritating to me as anyone else when someone charges past at 1000000 decibels.

In such a crowded place as Utah something had to be done to prevent annoying all the jack rabbits and coyotes out in the desert. Just goes to show how hard working and thoughtful our elected officials are. lol
Actually, I wish there was regulation demanding silencers on leaf blowers, they are really stressing out all the little buggers hiding under the leaves, and waking me up when I need to take a nap.

Man , I am glad i am in Florida..That really bites for you guys in Utah..Anyways,,What about all the crap that all the huge jet airplanes put off..I am sure the stuff they release into the atmosphere adds up to be way more than all the cars...Just look at the cloud of crap a commercial jet leaves behind in the sky..

Just goes to show that lawmakers don't know squat about cars.
I do like the idea about the car being safer by it's ability to merge better with traffic. By those standards, I should qualify for a hefty "green" tax credit!

What a load of crap. Seriously...not even just mufflers, all exhaust systems?

About the last thing you can do is to let a cop decide what's right and what's wrong. With some cops being as about as cold hearted as the criminals they arrest, if they were any worse, with the total mess that we've become used to calling "the law", they could literally pull over anybody on the street, strip search them and their vehicle, beat them up, smash their windows, tow their cars and have them arrested for pretty much nothing. That is if they really wanted to.

No really, they could. I give a cop with some compassion a lot of credit, for retaining some of his humanity after being brainwashed and hardened for so many years, then given a false sense of superiority and security, and more responsibility than he can truly comprehend. So I got no complains from the cops themselves...but the system is messed up.

The most messed up part of this is that I bet some GM or dealer employed lobbyist is behind the whole thing.
