Default is it ok to run no cat?

I have a 94. 3.4, i will be porting my throttle body sometime in the next week. Im lookingfor cheap easy mods. Mostly just to make it sound more bad ***. The throttle body will sound a lil deeper so... Can i put a straight pipe in in place for the cat? Does my car need the backpressure or anything. I haver a flowmaster muffler on it!

You can put a straight pipe in place of the cat. Only thing it would affect is the emissions. Which I think I read somewhere that OBD-I cars are now exempt from that.

camarokid16...if you're planning on doing that, i hope you have a friendly mechanic or do it yourself. iowa does have emission laws, we just don't have to get our cars inspected. i asked both of my mechanics if they'd do it for me and they both told me they can't do it at work cause they can get in serious trouble if someone sees them cutting out a cat on a car and not putting a new one on. just some food for thought

Not much power really, but it won't hurt anything either. Your car may smell like it's running rich afterward though.

If he only would gut the cat, instead of putting in a straight pipe, then there would be something to really talk about. Look out Vipers!
