Need Advise
I just bought a 1981 camaro with a 305 in it, I will late be putting a 350 in it but the carb that is on it now doesnt have any connections for the choke and the throttle linkage is held on with a zip tie. Was looking fo suggestions on a carb for it that would be a good transfer to a 350 later. Also looking for something a little cheaper right now. On a 1981 would I need an electric or manual choke and if electric where would the wires be to hook t hat up.
I suggest Edelbrock carbs, probably the 650 CFM. It'll give good street performance with faster throttle response than if you got a 700+ CFM carb. Holley makes good carbs too, but they work really good in 2 positions, Idle and WOT. I'm not sure what intake manifold your camaro has on it, but you need to make sure if you have a Quadrajet carb right now, you get an intake manifold that has the right flange(I believe it's square, but if you search at summitracing.com you'll be able to find it).
The electronic choke should be wired to a +12 volt constant that is activated by the ignition switch the negative side gets grounded. I have an edelbrock 600 on my car and it works fine.
