Default MAF- myth or worth the $

Well I have changed out the intake for a Moroso CAI. Found a good price on Ebay, used. Question is for the peoples who know I thing or two about Mass Air Flow sensors. 1994 Z28, LT1 and I was thinking that I would put on a "cold air" maf, granatelli maybe, to match the cold air tube. Is this going to be a waste of money and time? I have heard that a Z06 corvette MAF with the right PCM codes will be even better. Granatelli is an expensive MAF for this camaro, could use some input.

The stock MAF flows more than a basically stock engine needs, so a MAF that flows more is not going to make much difference.

It's a waste of money, nuff said. You can get the same effect for much cheaper by purchasing a larger MAF housing for your stock sensor.

Wont this cause a lean condition? Since there is more air going in than is measured since the MAF is calibrated for a certain diamater housing?

I would imagine you would need to program the ECU for this as well to correct that.

It does work allowing more air, but you should have it retuned for the new air/fuel ratio. This will bring out the potiential horses with the new sensor.

mass airflow sensors will outflow your engine requirements naturally aspirated. even added nitrous will not outflow the mass air sensor.even with a cold air intake and bigger housings the sensors will be able to make up for it. you should not need it tuned unless you are running obd1
