the worst case situation is you have to unbolt an engine mount and jack it up on the oil pan a few inches. headers arent that bad but they can be a *****.

I just cut a 1/2 circle out of a 2X4 and jacked mine up by the crank pulley, worked like a charm...

If you can get headers on a 4th gen without removing the engine, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to get them on a 3rd gen in the same way!

if they are shorty headers you shouldnt have to jack up anything.

Default RE: headers for 90 rs

I just removed my Hedman 1 5/8" shorty headers and Y-pipe from my '91 RS to have them Jet-Hot coated. I had them mounted on the engine when I dropped the engine and trans combo in a few years ago. I had to loosen up the pax side header to get the engine in. Fast fwd to 10 days ago. The car is jacked up, wheels@ 10" off the ground to get the Y-pipe off. The headers came out the top with the pax side removal not to rough, need to try many different angles/movement of header to get it out and it does rub hereand there but will pull out. Drivers side came out also with a rub/contact on the steering shaft and head, I pulled it straight up with the flange parallel, just like it mounts on the head. The valve coverremoved will enable me to slidethe header down and in ( I Believe) without any difficulty. I've read articals that say you must remove the steering shaft but my extra effort paid off. I should have my headers back any day and will be installing. Feel free to call me and Ican go into greater detail with you. Good luck, it can be done!
