Default exhaust help 94 lt1 6-speed

I have a 94 TA lt1, It has BBK stainless headers, with straight pipes (no cats) to a flowmaster muffler. It sounds ok at idle, but it pops a lot when down shifting, it sounds like an exhaust leek, but its not ive checked.... what can I do to reduce the back pop?
and would swaping to a magnaflow (or other) muffler give it more of a deep, less trashy tone?

i also have a problem with my 1994 v6 3.8 camaro.. idle sounds really well.. and when i get it above 3k rpm and shift it makes like a wierd pop noise.. like a ricer noise lol and it sounds good otherwise.. i have an 80 series flowmaster on it.. but the cat has been gutted.. which might be why its popping? not for sure.. on idle if i rev it up a little it backfires like crazy also

Put cats on it and most the popping should go away.

Was no 3.8 in 94 Camaro. Put a cat on it.

this is true. my last z had no cat and a flowmaster 40 and sounded like crap. my new z has the same cat back but i add a high flow cat, i now have the best sounding camaro in my town. i add LT headers, running full 3" to a CME. i very happy with it. all v6's with aftermarket mufflers sound like ricers, put a cat back on it.

Yeah, I don't think most people realize how much the cat can affect the sound.

High flow cat would be fine. Hollowed out cats just don't sound well.
