The only issue with replacing just the muffler is you still have the compression bent pipe that goes from the cat to the muffler. The muffler is restrictive, but the place where the pipe goes over the axel with all the compression bends can get pretty restrictive as well. Plus the whole cat-back system is 3" mandrel bent tubing all the way back, instead of 2.5".
