Default Direct fit vs universal cat conv

Looking through summitracing.com, I come across two kinds of cat converter for the Camaro. One is a universal fit, and one is a direct fit version. Which one is which? I plan on getting headers and a catback along with a new cat converter. From what I can tell, the direct fit has more tubing on it, where as the universal fit is just the converter.

One word "Universal", if you like something that will not fit and requires additional work go this route. Like anything on these cars even the parts that are surpose to be a direct fit always don't go in smoothly. Your choice, I lucked out with a direct fit Catco 9118 and everything was there in the correct position, even the AIR tubes.

A direct fit cat would have the bolt-on flange(s) like stock, to fit a stock exhaust. A universal would be with an in/out pipe, no flanges, and you make it fit. But...with headers, are you going with a custom, non-stock exhaust system, or are you tying it into a conventional system? If it's a custom system, a direct fit cat may do you no good.

the universal's only require them to be cut in and welded into place. just make sure you get the proper inlet and outlet diameters and you will be fine

I'm looking for headers and a catback. So I guess universal is for me. Thanks for the help.

I'm looking at Clear Image for my headers. Do they have the catted y-pipes? If so, does that mean that I can forgo a standalone cat all together? I'm looking on their site and all they have is "custom y-pipe for manual transmission".
