Default universal fob

Can anyone provide or link instructions on how to program a universal fob to a 4th gen camaro? I've searched around a bit and cant find any, so I'm wondering if its even possible?

i work at a Chevrolet dealer. you need a scan tool to program. at least for all the OEM fobs. we use a GM Tech 2 scan tool, and get into the system to program the next 'available slot' in the remote control door lock receiver part of the BCM

ok thanks for the help, sounds a lot more straightforward than trying to figure out a universal one. Would any GM scan tool work?

No you can not use a universal fob on factory keyless. The keys and keyfobs have to be programable to the open slots. New the first and second slots are taken, if anyone else has gotten keys or fobs since new they have been taken up and you'll need to know that buying so you buy the right ones. If you go after market alarm/remote start it will fix you're fob problem. Usually you can get a bad a$$ alarm with remotely start installed for bout $220/$250

I'm new to this, what are the "open slots?" So basically from the factory, slots 1 and 2 are used and they can't be used again? And do you mean if I get a camaro fob for my year/model it will fit these slots? I don't have the money to drop on an alarm, so I either get a fob to work or go without one.

Slots are pre-programed numbers basically. And once they are programmed no you cannot use them again. And for the most part by the time you buy you're fobs and pay for them to be programmed you might as well spend a extra few $$ and get a new alarm or new alarm and remotely start. I do not have any fobs and only one set of keys. The chipped keys last time I checked was $70 a key then you pay to get the key programmed is bout another $70 then the fob price and programmed too probably gonna be close to the same. And the basic keyless entry alarm you can get for $140-$180 installed. So.. if I was you I'd hit up some shops and find out bout installed prices before going to gm and finding out there prices. Cuz imo $50 more for aftermarket is worth it cuz then you don't have as much $$$ invested if you loose a fob and need it replaced again.
