Default Change to stock intake lid

I was on another car site awhile back questioning Whisper lids versus a K&N kit for a 3.8 V6. One dude suggested to take the stock intake lid and "get rid of" the baffles. He said in doing this would basically replicate a Whisper lid. Does anyone know if this is true? Or was this guy blowing smoke/being a moron?

Hey, thanks for the answers guys. It's a done deal--only took me about thirty minutes to complete. Now I'll just need to get a descent filter for it.
