Catalytic converter
My 01 Z28 recently put out a code saying my cats are going bad, i was wondering if it would be better to buy a set of high flow cats or just empty them out and buy the false reading o2 sensors so my service engine light stays off. also is it true that with the ls1 its better to keep the stock manifolds on or upgrade to some real headers. A friend told me that headers get the engine to hot or something like that. i don't know if that's entirely true and would really appreciate your opinions on this matter. PS. whats the eta time on removing the cats if u happen to know thanks.
Headers won't make the engine hot but will cause the temp under the hood to go higher. The thinner metal in headers will transfer more heat than thicker cast iron manifolds.

if u mean long tube header when u say real headers then yes. the stock exhaust manifold is not as good as long tube headers but are about the same as the shorty headers. u should consider a high flow catted y pipe. what kind of headers are u looking at?
My Father works for a racing team called turner racing there not nascar but a level or two under. they use parts for 1 season then get rid of em so i can get free headers im not looking at any spacific ones but was just wondering whats good. Thanks for the advice. if i was to have to buy something i would say im in the 500 to 700 dollar range right now.
I have a set of headers on my car. They are Hooker, and YES they do raise the temperature under the hood and throw alot of heat. Say goodbye to your wires if they are not routed properly. They will melt and you will have misfires in a month. Thats my experience. If you go with headers, make sure you buy special wires or route them AWAY from the headers. Before i started getting pro at my tune ups, I had to replace wires every month. And deal with miss fires. Best of luck!
