Default cat. and air management pipe

i am looking at getting my cat cut off for the sound and better flow but there is a pipe connecting (assuming its called the air management pipe) the cat to some other smog/air crap. question is what is this pipe doing and most importantly what do i do with this pipe if i take the cat off but leave the rest of the smog stuff on. plug it?

*added bonus of taking the cat off is the money i actually save because i can sell that piece of titanium for a set of custom bent tail pipes*

What year? The line comes from the smog pump, just plug it. And as long as you don't have an oxygen sensor after the cat, you'll be ok pulling the cat out. If there is one, your computer will throw an error code and light up your SES in the dash.

o man yeah sorry its an 89 rs with a 305 tbi. but no sensor in sight just one on the header. but im guessing its just recirculating some exhaust gas into the engine to reburn? if i do plug it though is the the pump going to be working like crazy to get a breath of that air?

You'll have no issues. I recently took all that air crap off my 91 RS, mostly for cosmetic reasons.
