transmission
I want to crack out 500 hp to my manual 4 speed tranny on my 1980 camaro. First can i do this with my stock 4 speed and if i can what do i have to do to make sure it can handle it. i know ill need a new drive train and all that good stuff. and that my stock tranny can handle it as long as i dont rost the tires. but i want to build it so that dont matter. any one got a solution? I am also running a 350 small block. Should i go 2 a 442 small block or move up to a 350 big block?

RE: transmission
for that power, its kind of pushin it on a stock m21, and an m22 will handle up to around 750 hp. The first place to start would be a blowproof bellhousing, as well as same hays or centerforce racing clutches and pressure plate. The pedal will be hard, but the parts are designed for it. You will prolly want to replace the tranny mount with a solid one as well. If you have an m20 or 21 I would have a transmission guy put aftermarket parts in it. as for drivetrain, beef up the rear, and maybe replace the driveshaft, but you may be ok there, dunno
