RE: steering column noise
[X(] well this will depend on you or a buddys skill level. first things that come to mind to be checked are tie rod ends, steering rack mounts, ball joints, strut bearings(top of strut) try to get the car to do it consistantly, will it do it in the driveway(not moving)?? then figure out which corner of the car its coming from and start listening and feeling for the noise. if your not mechanicly inclined then start a relationship at a shop you trust. a diagnosis for something like this may be a freebee at 5 o'clock if accompanied by beer or other items. we wont know the cost until we find the problem. generally buckling noises start out at $500 to repair where as the chirp is only $35 or so. no no no just kidding give us more info kurt

RE: steering column noise
i had a problem like that on my lumina altough it was more of a creeking sound, could still be similiar to what your hearing, only reallydid it at low speeds but could be because thats only wheni heard and was more significant when turning in the one direction. i thought it might have been one of the joints but when i brought it in for an oil change i had them check and they said that they thought it was something in the steering column that needed to be greased or something. i dont really remember what he said it was exactly buti didnt have them fix it because for them to take the steering column out would cost a pretty penny and he said it was more of a nuisance and not a safety hazard. dont lnow if that helps you out or not.
