ok i already own a 91 z28 had a 5 speed... i planned to swaping the motor since it was a 305 so i ripd it out... i bought a ls1 and i have the computer, wiring harness, headers, oil pump, 6 speed, flywheel.... recently i just found out im having a kid and wont have the money to put it in the car and do the work to make it nice. i know a guy who will sell me a 96 z28 automatic with a lt1, it has a blown head what should i do????...
how much would it cost to put the ls1 in this car and how much for the 91 i already own.... i would just fix the lt1 but idk yet if thats all thats wrong with it

blown head? or head gasket? im assuming head gasket.. if you can fix head gaskets, for the right price (around $1000-1500) its a good buy.. swapping the LS into the 96 would be a lot of electrical work..and parts.. i would stick with the LT1 and sell the 91 and the stuff. theres people like me who are dying for a LS or a T56
i have the ls1... all new coils pack..... msd spark wires.... and the 6 speed t56 tranny.... computer and wiring harness from painless... sanderson street rod headers..... oil pump.....clutch disc ...... new ac delco spark plugs.... maybe more have to look
To put the LS1 in a 96 you pretty much need an entire doner car. To get it done in the 91 will take some fabrication skills or a kit to get that engine in the car. Either one will be a few more $$$'s than you want to spend it sounds like. Congrats on the baby BTW, they are fun I have 3 1/2.
As for the LT1, you should be able to replace the head gaskets for a couple hundred if you dont need to replace the heads. The heads are like $350 each from most auto part stores. So you should be able to get 2 new heads and the gaskets and stuff for about $1200 or so and have a pretty good car.
Camaro's WILL fit infants!! I know this first hand my youngest is now only 18 months old and she has been riding in the car since she was 9 months old, and still in a rear facing seat. It is not the easiest access I have ever experienced but it is also not the worst.
