at 115 your car shouldn't be anywhere near your rev limiter. is this a consistant thing? that is awefully low to have a speed governor kick in on a Z-28

well i didnt think to look at the rpm. but i know running 70 its only at 2000 rpm so i dont think so. and if so that would be horrble. and either way that is horrible. this is why i want to rebuild it. i do believe its been rebuilt before the car it self has alot of miles. and when i say alot i mean 170000 of them lol. i got the car cheap. it dont smoke it dont leak oil very bad. only one place and it probly uses a quart a month meybe probly not that much its at the oil sending unit or something like that. but yeah its constant ive done it about 5 times and its constant the next time im in place to do it ill see and look at the rpm. that would suck if the rpm is maxed out at 115 or is that even possible for a 350. hmm that would suck if so.

Seems like you have a car with a speed limiter. Cars that were sold without the Z rated tires had speed limiters to prevent people from committing suicide.

[X(] rpm at speed in top gear will vary depending on rear end ratio. my 95 z will run a little less than 2 grand at 70 mph with the 273 ratio rearend almost all others will have a slightly higher rpms as 273 was about as tall as gm goes with its rear gears. as for the cutout at 115 mph does it just go dead or feel like it loses power, is the cutout speed consistent?. either way if i remember right some vehicles had SPEED goveners and was not rpm specific but top speed specific as it sounds like this is your problem. id call the dealer and ask the service dept, they should know for sure if yours came with a top speed cutout kurt
