Default Oil Pressure & Water Temperature Problem

I rebuilt a 305 out of a 1978 camaro and i put it into my boat not long ago. Recently for some my oil temperature gauge has been pointing all the way right. It does it even when i turn the key on with the engine not running. Its1 quart low on oil. What could the problem be?

Also, when i turn the key on the temperature gauge goes all the way over but then drops down to about the middle when the engine is off. Currently it doesnt have a thermostat in it.

Maybe bad wiring for both the temp and oil pressure?

sounds like a bad ground. A faulty ground will cause guages to stay pegged to the right.
