Need Help 93 Camaro/LT1 Runs but Stalls
Hi, I'm having a problem that is getting the best of me. My 93 Camaro is stalling on me. Sometimes it'll drive for 20-25 miles or not stall at all. Sometimes it'll stall after 2-3 miles. What I've done so far is replaced the MAF, IAC, cleaned the K&N filter, checked fuel pressure (@40-46 PSI), also checked key ohms and spare key and they are he same, also replaced the oil pressure sending unit. My description of whats happening is I can be going 25 or 75 and it just dies. It will start up again after anywhere from 15 min.- 30 min. sometimes almost 1 hr. depends if I try to start it or not, If I don't try to start it it usually statrs is 15 min. So needless to say I'm at a loss of what it could be except maybe a VATS problem. I'm electrically inept. Very good mechically. Thanks for reading this.

Well I think I have fixed it. I replaced the fuel pump relay today and it appears that it is staying running. I'll keep my fingers crossed, my eyes and everything else crossed. The irony of this whole ordeal is that the fuel pump relay was only 12.99 at Autozone.

You might want to keep everything crossed for the time being. The pump relay switches on when you first turn the ignition key. Then it stays on for a few seconds, and switches off. That's your "initial prime" where you hear the pump run for a few seconds. An ignition signal (not the relay) is what keeps the pump going once the engine is running (the 3rd gen's ran the pump circuit through the oil pressure switch to keep the pump running). You might have a problem with your computer, a loose or corroded wiring connection, or your pump itself (motor) could be overheating after it runs for a while.
Obviously you're away from home when this happens. But, do you have some diagnostic tools you can take with you to see if you still have fuel pressure or spark when it kills?

It still has a problem. As in it did again or still. I was just getting used to it running as it should until it stalled again. I think I have 3 things left. 1) the fuel pump itself, 2) the opti (even though it only about 8 months old), 3) VATS system. I've downloaded the jumper information but like I said I'm electrically inept. Thanks for your reply. Nice 69 you have. My hotrod is a 88 IROC Z28 383 with TPIS Mini Ram, All Eagle rotating assembly and Dart Pro 1 215 CC heads.

1) Could be. You need to check pressure at the fuel rail when it craps out. Then relieve the pressure and see if you can hear the pump prime again.
2) Maybe, but not as likely. Most opti symptoms are the engine running but running crappy.
3) If your VATS was bad, your engine wouldn't even crank over, let alone start.
Other options could be an overheating coil, or ignition module.
Hopefully you'll be able to pull some error codes.
