When I start the engine, it is reving and the gas pedal isnt down. I dont know why. I will check the throttle on the carb but thats my only hope. Please help me . Thanks for your help.

have u looked at the idle set screw and on the end of the throtel linkage on top of the carb thers a little pice that sticks up and theres a lever going to it so when u hit the gas it pushes it down therefor making the car rev that might be sticking because of (dirt)(varnishedgas)(greas)(hoodfibers)or the pin could be bent well hope i was of some help

 

I am assuming it is on your 79 and it is carbed.
Check the choke plate. Also make sure the linkage is not hung up some where also, check the throttle spring on the carb.

Huh. It looks like someone was working on a similar problem. Haha. I just fixed it with mine. The throttle cable was sticking. I replaced it and its golden. Phew! Glad thats done with!

 

Looks like they got it done 3 years ago also...
