Magnetic Drain Plugs

RE: Magnetic Drain Plugs
[X(] good bit of commentary. i think in some previous dialog someone may have mentioned the ridiculous magnets they sell for almost every part of the car to improve gas mileage and power and lumped the non snake oil (truly helpful) placement of magnets in the pile. anytime you can remove harmful contaminants from the system you cant be hurting anything. magnets that will attract the bad debris wheather on the oil filter, attatched to the drain plug ( probably a more useful and better functioning placement than the oil filter) or in the transmission pan can only do you and your engine a favor and whomever it was that thought otherwise with reference to that article should be flogged kurt

RE: Magnetic Drain Plugs
I just dropped the trans pan and added ~4quarts of Dexron 6 and noticed a decent size magnet on my trans-pan -- sure had a bunch of metallic-clay like stuff attached to it, and I cleaned it. Same was true with my magnetic drain plug in my 01. So I am added a magnetic GM plug to my 95 oil pan too...

[X(] the "clay" you found is normal to an extent it means the magnet is doing its job. this metallic sludge would have gone back through the trans shortening its usefull life. see magnets are helpful and GM and alot of other companies think so too. its when the large chunks of brass and "tea leaves" start showing up that you gotta worry kurt
