sorry for my ignorance but i never check this before.

well its an automatic transmission on a 99 LS1 Z28
the transmission had no fluid, after installing it; i added 8 quarts of oil as indicated.
but im not too sure if that is normal for the tranny to spid out oil after driving it.
well the dipstick as a lock on it so im guessing to maintain it pressurized.
as i parked it at home i turned off the engine, i tried to check the oil level and as i unlocked the dipstick a bit of oil gushed out.
i don't want to drive it if its not normal.

A pan drop and refill takes right around 4.5 quarts. 8 quarts would be more like if the torque converter was empty. And a completely dry trans and coolant system takes a little over 11 quarts.
You overfilled it.....
The trans isn't under pressure, or supposed to be. The fluid shouldn't be gushing out of the filler tube. Get yourself a cheap oil siphon from the parts store and suck a lot of that fluid out.
The level gets checked with the engine running at normal running temp, not when the engine is off. Run the trans through all the gears a couple of times, put it in park, then check the level. And I wouldn't drive the car until you get the level back down. Having too much fluid can make it foam up, and that isn't good for the trans. Not to mention the mess it makes from burping out like it is.

well i did a complete tranny swap.
so the transmission that i installed had no oil in it.
the torque converter was brand new. i maybe put about a 1/4 of oil inside of it.
so do you still think i could of over filled it???
i did buy a pump yesterday and i was thinking of taking out 6 quarts of oil.
i haven't run the camaro after that, i only drove it around the block to test it out.
Once i know everything is good and the way it should be then i will drive it.
better be safe than sorry :-)
