welp since were on the fuel pump thought.

from no gas at all (i run it low a lot), and i put 20 dollars in it goes all the way up to full. then it drops very fast like 150 miles later down to nothing. i just thought the gauge was messed up.

now the backfire, when i pull into somewhere and try to show off a little i will put it into neutral and just quicklytry tapping the gas to like 2000 rpm, once( non-rice) lol. but instead of reving up there will just be a soft (PUFF) noise. and it wont rev up.

it happens like once every 2 days or so. and i drive ALOT. the car is bone stock, never touched.
and the z28 makes the 3.8 look like a 4 banger. the 3.8 is just a smother, compfy car.
Check the throttle position sensor. Its job is to tell the PCM that the throttle valve is moving. If the PCM does not see the change in the TPS signalitwill react slowlyto the throttle opening and not immediately increase fuel delivery. It more or less acts as the accelerator pump in a carburetor.

z28pete.... now that you said that, the other owner did a full tune up but it still has a bad hesitation. when you floor it it takes like 2-3 seconds to downshift and take off. tps???

I too am beginning to have this problem with my 91 RS. Sometimes when I rev it up at a stop light or something. depending on how much I rev it. Depends on how loud the backfire is. I revved it up one time nearly redlining as it came back down to idle POW! Sounded like a damn drive by shooting. With the exception of only one shot of course lol . But the thing is I did a major tune up on it about a month ago. Bosch wires and plugs, coil , cap, rotor, and recently an oil change. Could it be because of the fact that my exhaust system is going to **** ? The hanger mount at the catyletic (spelling) converter is broke, so it has bottomed out a few times and now theres a hole in it from the beginning of the converter back needs to be replaced.
And, might I add that its all stock manifolds. Which when i have the time and money .... i plan to put headers on it and run true duals back w/ cherry bombs or flowmasters.
