timing maybe, or an oil leak could cause it. also, bad spark plugs, cheap gas, and things of this nature maybe

It's an LT1, they all act that way, enjoy it, I know I do! It's just some unburnt fuel in the exhaust because the computer can't adjust the fuel mixture fast enough when the RPM's are dropping so a little unburnt gets out in the exhaust and it ignites, nothing to worry about.

In that case you have a sick LT1 and you should give it some TLC. Enjoy the popping in the tailpipes, they all do that, but it is not noticeable on a stock exhaust.

Ithink he means its actually backfiring, if your talking about just tapping the gas, and letting go right away, and not after it rev's up, such as

VROOM> da da da pop dada pop,(normal) i think he means {Tap} POP! then goes back to idle, does that sound right?

my car did that a few years ago before my fuel pump went bad, might want to check that.

welp since were on the fuel pump thought.

from no gas at all (i run it low a lot), and i put 20 dollars in it goes all the way up to full. then it drops very fast like 150 miles later down to nothing. i just thought the gauge was messed up.

now the backfire, when i pull into somewhere and try to show off a little i will put it into neutral and just quicklytry tapping the gas to like 2000 rpm, once( non-rice) lol. but instead of reving up there will just be a soft (PUFF) noise. and it wont rev up.

it happens like once every 2 days or so. and i drive ALOT. the car is bone stock, never touched.

and the z28 makes the 3.8 look like a 4 banger. the 3.8 is just a smother, compfy car.

about the gas going down fast after 3/4- 1/2 way... the way the gas tank is shaped makes it do that, it is bigger at the top, and gets smaller to clear the rear axle, although you should be getting better mileage than that, (depending on how you drive) the gas gauge thing is normal, thats why with an LT1 camaro or firebird it is a neccesity to refuel before the gauge gets to 1/4 full, the fuel pump uses the gasoline to cool down the pump motor, so if you run it low all the time, the fuel pump is just hanging there with no gas to cool it down, and you will definately have fuel pump issues.

hope that helps man!
