Ignition question
I have a crane hi6 ignition and a msd distributor and have an issue. The car was runnig ok than started to become hard to start and now will not start. I investigated the wiring and connections and havnt found an issue. I pulled the dist cap and noticed the button to be significantly wore away, this is probably with about 70 1/8th mile passes on the cap. I checked the light on the crane ignitin and it dosnt flash any kind of a fault code nor does it flicker indicating it senses the pickup it is lit as normal. There is no spark coming from the coil to the cap there is also no power coming from the ignition box to the coil. What I am wondering is if the ignition box does not recognize the magnetic pickup will it even send power to the coil...

Well the first step MSD told me to try is to take the wire connection apart that attaches the box to the distributor then take the coil wire off the the distributor cap and put the end within 1/2 inch of a ground. make a jumper wire turn the ignition on and jump the two pickup wires together if it (coil wire)sparks the box is ok and the distributor pick up is bad. If it doesnt the box or the coil or both are bad. They suggest swaping the coil and trying it again I didnt do this yet I checked the ohms of the coil and got exactly the same readings from post to post I think that is bad but I cant find specs on the crane coil.

I havnt totally figured out the problem but i just wanted to correct somthing, the crane Hi6 box will not trigger like the MSD by jumping the pickup wires, it will trigger when you touch the points wire(white) to ground I tried it and the box fires the coil. I am not sure if that means the box is good or not I will have to talk to "crane" tomarrow. Crane was partially bought by SS cycle I had two people respond to my question so I guess their tech department is active. http://69.20.53.62/index.php
