One outlet of the Y pipe goes to the radiator.. Then there is the water pump line and a line coming off the intake.

Just because you never heard of it does not mean it is not true. I have a Camaro with the hoses hooked up. You don't!

Now I am done with you

Well what are you working on? The air pump or the heater? Two different things. If its the heater core. then just hook up the hoses coming from the water pump and the intake manifold to the heater core. Early S10 don't have that valve. That just cuts off hot water so the AC cools beter inside. And it has nothing to do with emissions.
If its your air injection. Leave the diverter valves on the exhaust if they are there and cap them off.Thats all the air pump does is pump air into the exhaust.
