Harmonic Dampeners
Okay fellows, I'm looking at what touse for a harmonic dampener. The engine is supposed to be a 383 putting out approximately 475 hp. I keep seeing these SPI water balancers for SBC all over the place and a few other types I just can't think of at the moment.
How do you determine what is going to be the correct balancer for a particular engine? Any and all advise or input is greatly appericiated.
Hope every one's having a really great holiday.

RE: Harmonic Dampeners
Hmm, there isn't a real good answer for your question without knowing a ton of info on the motors internals and what not.
Manual or Auto trans? Did they change the internal balance? What type of pulley system are you running? Crank triggered ignition?(I ran into that one myself). The thickness of the pulley can change all of the distances for other pulleys on the motor. If it's a 383 the inside has definately been modified. I would make absolute sure of what crank was used. Then talk with the suppliers of the pulleys giving them your package and they will have a suggestion for you I would imagine.

RE: Harmonic Dampeners
Thanks for the start on getting it worked out. I hope to pull the engine here soon so I can get all the details. I too don't know enough about the internals other than the build sheet supplied by the seller and I can only hope its all real stuff. I'll be finding out real soon and will post the question again. Thanks again.
