Default hard start

so i have a 97 z28 and almost every time i try to start it, it seems to take around 5-10 seconds to start. i dont really know what it could be. the spark plugs aren't old, the wires have been changed out when i first started having the problem. does anyone have this problem? or have any idea's of how to fix the problem? thanks in advance for any help

Any SES lights on? Have you changed the fuel filter? What is the fuel pressure? Do you have any vac leaks? Just some things to start with. Air filter clean?

i dont have any ses lights on. the air filter is clean and it just got a new fuel filter about a year ago. i thought that might be the problem but it got changed and the car is still a hard start. i dont know about the vac leaks, never thought about that. how would i check that? thanks for your help.

Sometimes, iyou can hear the vac leaking with the hood raised with opening the throttle just a little, depends on where the leak could be or how bad it is. Pick up a vac guage at your local parts store and a repair manual for about $25. Just because the fuel filter was replaced a year ago, doesn't mean that it is still good.

i know that doesn't mean the fuel filter is good but it has been a hard start since i had it 2 1/2 years ago. when i changed the fuel filter it did nothing. i will have to try the vac check and see how it goes. thanks for all the help.

I would also consider a compression test. Low compression will make for a hard starting engine.
