Default Gas saving tips

I read somewhere that you can get better gas miliage by converting to a V4 very cheaply. Not that I would do this but how is it done.

who makes a v4?? or do you mean like cadillac where they drop 2 or 4 cylinders at cruise?? ive never seen or heard of this being done as a conversion. i cant see where dropping cylinders by fuel cutoff would gain all that much as your still dragging them round and round, seems to have been more of a novelty so far than a tried and true system kurt
