Default Driving Without an Oil Cap

I discovered today my 2010 V6 Camaro was missing it's oil cap... I found it sitting in a small area under the hood where it was left, near the windshield area. It was sitting there since my last oil change.

I haven't noticed any wrong while I was driving it, but I'm worried that has done some damage to my engine. It was probably driving without a cap for quite some time now (When I got my oil changed that day, I reset the oil meter on the dash, and it's currently at 55%).

Just drained the oil myself, and came up to about 4 quarts of oil left.

My question is, should I be worried and have my engine checked out? I'm also sending a complaint to the auto shop that changed my oil that day.

Thanks for all your help!

Shouldn't cause any damage, but may have sucked in some unfiltered air or blown out some oil, but nothing major. If you are worried, just get another oil & filter change.

Yeah, I wouldn't be too worried about it, unless you were driving through a sand storm or under water. Maybe a little dust or a bug could have gotten in, but it would have gotten washed down to the pan and filtered, if it made it through the pump strainer. That's why I like to do my own oil changes, instead of taking it to a place that's more concerned with trying to break land speed records for doing an oil change.

^ That's appalling, and yet I'm not the least bit surprised. Many people who take their car in to get serviced, don't know an oil cap from a hole in the ground, and repair places know it. Obviously, there are too many people out there trying to make a quick buck for nothing. Or, maybe it's just a Californi thang!
