Default So I was driving tonight....

And my check gages light came on. My battery voltage was low, right at the start of the red. Oil pressure was fine, etc etc and the car seemed to be running fine but she was a little hotter than usual, but not even close to overheating. I'm getting my spark plug wires fixed on wednesday and until then the shop fixed em up with electrical tape. Could this have anything to do with that? Is my battery messed up? I needed to take a trip tomorrow on the highway, should she be ok out there?

whoa whoa whoa, lets back up here. They fixed your plug wires with electrical tape? First, what happened to them? They're about $35 to replace, and even cheaper if your buy the standard wires. Nearly every auto part store should have them in stock. I would never drive my car with plug wires that are held together with tape.

I would also have your altinator tested.

Well I work for CarMax and they squeezed in the diagnostic on my engine right before closing and didn't have time to properly fix them so he patched it up with a "temporary" fix until Wed.

My alternator should be good I had that thing replaced not even a year ago...

And it's just one of my wires that's ripped, the rest are fine just worn down.

The only thing I don't understand is your wire condition. Wires don't "wear down" after use, unless they are rubbing on something. did a wire get pinched, melted?

Extreme old age. My question is what is going on with my battery? My car is still running fine and this problem just started tonight, could it just be a glitch in my electtrical system causing this?

Also she has had no trouble starting or running(classic signs of battery or alternator troubles)and the check gages light goes out when I accelerate but the voltage meter does not go back up.

I would scan the computer for the codes in it's history, and try to scan it when the light is on. If your altinator is good, not sure about what else it may be. Someone else will chime in eventually.
