Disc Brake Conversion
Husband put a GM disc brake conversion kit on my 68 Camaro. After running the brake lines and hooking them up, they all leak. He tried re-flaring the lines several times, still leaks. Went out and bought factory lines and they leak at. Are we using wrong size ends? We have been working on this for 2 weeks and getting very upset. We are out of ideas, if anyone can help it would be great. Thanks
Where are the lines leaking at, which connections? I've never had a problem with manufactured lines leaking before. If you flare your own brake lines, you need to make a double flare. If he only made a single flare, that would at least explain why those were leaking.
Lines are leaking at the master cylinder and at the wheels (both sides). Yes he did several (6) lines with double flares, all leaked. Then bought a factory line and it also leaked. Saw in Yearone at they sell different fittings, metric and something called a bubble flare fitting. Was thinking maybe we have metric fittings instead of the standard size. Has anyone else ran into this problem. After working on it for 2 weeks, we are totally confused. Thanks for any suggestions.
Are you sure he's cranking them down tight enough? Putting some anti-seize on the threads and a little where the flare bottoms on the nut will help prevent binding during installation. You want to be using American double flare tubing. Unless those parts you're using are foreign made and are manufactured as a weird cross-breed? Do the threaded fittings seem to fit correctly, and not sloppy? Whether American or Metric, the tubing would be a 45 degree flare, but the nut fitment would be an issue if using the wrong one. Bubble flare is as the name suggests, bubble shaped at the end, not concave like a standard or double flare like you have.
