i just bought a 1969 camaro to restore, it runs, great all original i think, anyway i was doing some research on the web to decode the cowl tag and vin number. My question is the 12437 stamped on the cowl tag states the car should have a 327 cid, but when i broke down the vin number it says the car had a v-6. Im new to the whole thing and maybe im reading this stuff wrong, but im not sure why they state 2 different engines. Any help would be great!!

12437 Stands for a standard V-8 sport coupe. For a six cylinder the vin would read out 12337. By the way there was no such thing as a V-6 they were all inline (straight) sixs that were either 230 or 250 ci. All that the vin designates is that you have a six cylinder or V-8 hardtop or convertable. By the way the trim tag identifies apart of the vin but the difference is that no matter what the third digit on the vin is it will alwaysbe a 4 on the trim tag. So your 12437 vin will match up to your trim tag. If you need more information on how to decode you vin and trim tag go to http://www.chevy-camaro.com/chevy-ca...ecode-1969.asp
