Default a couple questions on a 1994 camaro

hey guys from reading some of your other post it seems that you all are really good at helping out a possable buyer of a camaro so here goes i have a chance at a 1994 z-28 for 3,200.00 the car is fully load and is a one owner in very nice shape but it has 169,000 miles it was his daily driver and most all miles are highway and he took great care of it abuot 6 months ago he put a new lt1 in it and the motor is still under warranty for another 6 months and trany was rebuilt and has 3 months left on its warranty but i think the trany has a problem it is fine in all gear but when it goes in to R it feels like the breaks are on it hops alittle but still backs up good. so here is the questions
1. At idle the car will set for abit then it warms up to about 225 and then the fan kicks on is that normal and can that be changed with a reprogrammer?
2. The abs light is on what cause that and is it anything major?
3. What other worries are there about this model of car.
4. What things are there to do get some decent power out of this car.

thanks for all you help and hope to be join the camaro club soon.

It sounds like a good bargain.

1. At idle the car will set for abit then it warms up to about 225 and then the fan kicks on is that normal and can that be changed with a reprogrammer?
A: It is not normal to heat up to 225, but usually the fan does not kick on right away. I'd change the thermostat and have a shop check the fan circuit, etc.

2. The abs light is on what cause that and is it anything major?
A: It could be. Often the wheel sensors go out and the ABS can't work so it disables itself. You'll pretty much have to take it to a shop with good diagnostics and see what they say. Im most states, you don't need the ABS light to be off to past state inspection (check your state, though) so you could probably just leave it, as long as the brakes work well.

3. What other worries are there about this model of car.
A: Nothing, really, it is a pretty bulletproof model. But this one is an eleven-year old car with high miles but well cared for. If I bought it I'd take it to a good garage and ask them to look it all over, particularly: the rear axle - differential front seal often leaks and rear axles tend to be the car's only weak spot; front suspension and steering including the steering rack(another things the miles might have worn, and sort of expensive to fix), bushings, etc., front struts and rear shocks, radiator (it might be old and worn and clogged and this is why the car is overheating). If in doubt about all the hoses and belts replace them now.
Also, check the replacement LT1 - there were slightly different versions and this might be one of the later ones with a bit more HP than the original engine.

4. What things are there to do get some decent power out of this car.
A: Well, it really has decent power right now. But you can do a lot to mod an LT1 for more. First priority though is to make it yours and then find out and fix anything that is not right. Then, the usual drill: cold air induction, cat back exhaust, and headers. On these cars you get a big gain from an aftermarket Y-pipe along with the cat back -- make sure it has that, it helps a lot. Then, long tube headers. That combination will give you about 10% extra power. Beyond that the next thing is a new cam, then new heads, then . . . it goes on and on forever.
