cold start valve????
A question for anyone who can help.I have a 1989 iroc z28 350 tpi auto. The car will only turn on if i spray carb cleaner into the throtlebody.My haynes repair manual show a cold start valve on the intake by an injector,my car dose not have it.My question should i have it?Could that be my problem?Has any one had that problem?please help!! thanks.By the way i put a new cap and rotor ,wire,.spark plugs,did the timming fule filter,fule pump.Im stumped.

the check engine lite comes on once in a while for about 5 seconds. but not recently.I dont get it! when it turns on it runs like a champ!!!I bought the fule regulator diaphram (only $35)the rebuild kit i guess.Ill put it on tonight and ill let u know wats up.

From what I can understand, the car will run OK if you manually prime it with fuel.
To me this indicates the fuel pump is OK.
Check the fuel pressure while cranking, should be over 40 PSI
No pressure, check the fuel pump priming relay.
How it works:
The fuel pump is provided power via two different paths.
When cranknking, power to the pump is provided by the pump relay.
Once running and oil pressure is over 5 PSI, power to the pump is also provided via a switch incorporated into the oil pressure sensor.
Being that the engine will run OK once started it shows thwt the oil pressure sensor is OK
If you are able to crank the engine fast enough to bring up the oil pressure, it will start even with a bad pump relay
