Default carbed engine.

when starting a carbed engine, ive been told to pump the gas pedal a few times or just hold the gas pedal like half way down etc. i have found that when the engine is cold that it helps to pump it but when warmed up, holding the pedal down a little bit will do it just fine. does that sound alright or should i be doing it different or does it just vary from engine to engine. thanks

I always pump once, then hold it down a bit.

Just let those engines warm up before going off and doing crazy ****. I always get mine to 120 degrees before i even move.

[X(] if your carb is properly adjusted you should turn the key on pump the gas once and start her up. this does several things its sets the choke, raises the idle speed and injects a little extra fuel for startup. after running for 30 sec to a minute you should be able to tap the gas and the idle should reduce but not all the way to base idle speed yet. after another short time period another tap should bring it down to base idle speed. now this is how things are supposed to work however between lack of maintenance, lack of skill in the person working on vehicle, carb types, shortcuts etc its not always like this. once the car is warm it shouldnt need the extra shot of fuel provided by the choke so depending on cooldown time and needs of each engine either pump the gas a little or crack the throttle should be all that is required to start her up kurt

I had my Qjet working perfect on my 84. Pump the pedal once in the morning to set the choke and the idle would kick down all the way on its own. I had no need to touch the gas to do it. Then unless it sat for a long period there was no need to hit the gas again until it sat for a whil(overnight). Thats how they should work.
