Default ATTN: EGR Mechanics

so ive decided that i need a new egr valve. I have a 1992 Z28 with a 5 speed anda 5.7L.
So they only sell a new egr valve for:
1. 5.7L 4 sp Auto transmission
2. 5.0L 4 sp Auto
3. 5.0L 5 sp manual trans...im assuming this is the one i have on there already.
What is the Difference???ive ruled out getting selection 2, which one shoud i get??? \
thank yous!

You need to figure out what was original to your fuel system. To the best of my knowledge GM did not put the 5 speed with a 350. Assuming the fuel system was always a 350 you want the 350 EGR valve. If the fuel system is from a 5.0 and was "Upgraded" to a 350 block then you want one of the 5.0's most likely the 5 sp one.

Yes it had a 5.0 but now it is 5.7. So i should go for the onewith the manual tranny? whichis more important to the operation of theEGR: enginedisplacement ortransmission??? what the hell is the differencebetween the valves anyway? thanks gorn

is the EGR unit close to the transmission at all? if not then only worry about engine size. if you have a 350 there is a good chance the egr on there now is also from a 350

well it might be... the EGR is right on top of the intake manifold. And so far ive had to swap many of the existing305 sensors to 350.I was pondering and thoughtthatthe valve might close faster on a manual teansmission, not to allow the idle to drop too far on a shift, where on an auto it is done much faster and with less rpm difference between shifting... because there should be no EGR at idle.. just a thought... what else do you guys think? thanks specter!

So a new valve is $150 before tax and my employee discount[8D].I think im just going to clean it with Brakleen. and as for ther passages, ive heard a coarse wire pipe cleaner will do the trick. Thanks guys i'll let you know how it turns out!

What i did with my EGR, is removed it, (less of a PITA than yours, i'm sorry) and pretty much filled it up with penetrating fluid and let it sit a few hours, came back, hit it with the coarse wire pipe cleaner, and let it dry out. meanwhile, i sprayed the EGR holes on the block and let it sit for like 15 mins, wire brushed it then dried it out with ppr towels. I reconnected everything, and it has been fine ever since.
