any help would help
i own an 86 silverado but the engine is from a 78 Z28. im having a problem with starting it. my issue is this sometimes the flywheel and starter will lineup othertimes they lineup to well and the teeth lockup together. now both flywheel and starter are brand new just installed a week ago. i have shimmed the starter up and down and not at all and no matter what i do it seems to do the same thing. now when i do get it to turn the engine will not fire. someone please help im going nuts here trying to figure this out.
[:@]I hate that sound, does the new starter need shimed at all ?.sounds like a weak bendics spring or ,you have the wrong starter,is itmanual /auto, i think there is a diff in size, with the caseing at the end of the starter, hope this helps --good luck--jackz28.
i have shimmed it made sure its the right starter. me and a buddy counted the teeth on the flywheel and made sure the starter worked for that and checked with severel different people and they all said its right. it just seems like u crank it 5-6 times thats when it locks. i dont know.
[&:] silverado have you gotten any chevy manual and followed the started clearance checks and shimming procedures??? if you have and done it correctly the only other thing that comes to mind was the cracked starter bolt hole on the 400 cid blocks. i dont believe these were ever stock in a camaro but someone may have placed it into your donor car. there were a few options for starter and flywheels but most were pretty compatible and are usually easily solved with the right combo of parts or proper shimming. id recommend checking cast code and dampener to see if maybe you got a 400. these were notorious for thier cracked starter bolt holes with no real good way to fix and created all sorts of starter problems please get back to us kurt
