Default Alternator light won't go out

Does anybody have an idea why the generator light won't go out when the car is off? This is a 69' Camaro. Any help would be appreciated.

Could be thealternator died (shorted diode), and eventually the battery will die also.

[8D] my guess is that its indicating...... indicating that something aint working and its most likely the alternator. could be in the wiring or dash circuit but the light is turned off when the alternator feeds the lamp 12 volts after the engine is started, indicating that the alternator is working and producing voltage. sooooo you need to verify that the alt. is putting out 13.5 volts or so when engine rpm is around 1000. wrong pulley combination(underdrive pulleys) or just the wrong combo of factory pulleys i suppose could also do the trick. check some voltages and get back to us kurt
