Default one more for you guys

What is the difference in the LT1, LS1, and WS6 engines? Just wondering which is a better, faster engine. Thanks

I'll give you a breif and rough explanation. Someone else will probably chime in and give you a more technical explanation.

The LT1 was in the 1993-1997 camaros (Z28s and SSs), as well as the C4 corvettes. The LS1 was in the 1998-2002 Z28 and SS camaros, as well as the C5 corvettes. I've heard that (roughly) the LT1 gives a more torquey feel at the launch, while the LS1 screams and shows it's colors more at higher speeds (I think this might be guys shooting breeze though). From what I've gathered, the LS1 is revered more than the LT1 as being a higher-performing engine. The LS1 is a very beloved engine and people will even swap out their Mazda Miate and RX-7 engines for it. The LS1 breathes better and has a higher redline than the LT1. Parts are cheaper for the LT1.

The WS6 isn't a stand alone engine. I think WS6 was a premium performance package on the Pontiac Trans am, comparable to what the SS is to camaros.

The WS6 is not an engine!!! You can have a Pontiac Trans Am that has an LS1 engine in it, and it might also have the WS6 badges on the car. I'm not exactly sure what all the WS6 package included. I think it had some suspension enhancements.

Camaros sort of have tiers: base -> RS -> Z28 -> SS

So do Firebirds: Firebird -> Formula -> Trans Am. Except the WS6 is an added bonus to the already-badass Trans Am. There's also something called a Firehawk... I donno. I'll shut up about Pontiacs because I don't really know what I'm talking about when it comes to them. I don't really follow them much. I'm a camaro lover.

Don't forget that the Hi Po motors back in the early 70's were referred to as LT1's also.
And the WS6 is a suspension package on Pontiac's as far back ,and maybe farther back, as the late 60's early 70's

no problem, friends will do that to u [8D]

the ws6 is a package for the trans am much like the SS is for camaro. ram air, wheels, and suspension is pretty much it and it doesnt affect its performance much at all.

the z28, SS, Trans am, and trans am ws6 all have ls1 engines from 98-02. The ls1 is a 346cid aluminum small block, and its main advantage overthe lt1 is its head design. the heads flow much better than LT1 heads, and continue to flow withcam lifts over .600" stock, not many other SBC's run cams that big. this means that it starts out with more power, and responds better to each mod. price also isnt much of an issue (i heard this mentioned in ur other thread). this was true at one time, but anymore the costs are pretty comparable. even heads for an ls1 can be had for under 2k now fully assembled from major dealers.

the lt1 is a 350cid built off the standard chevy small block. this means many of its parts can be bolted on from other older engines, not that I would want to do this however. the major difference is that it has reverse cooling which means that the heads are cooled off before the block, this is pretty sweet because it allows people to run higher compression and therefore make more power without damaging the motor with knock. and racer is right, the older motors from back in the day were called lt1 as well, but 90% of the time when someone says lt1 they are referring to the 93-97 engine, otherwise you will probably just hear 350/350 small block or something like that.
