How long it will last is a question for a psychic.
It really depends on how well it was maintained. I have a 91 that was well taken care of with 190,000 on it. But with those miles it does have some very minor oil leaks. None that leave any puddles but you can see the build up in some areas on the motor. And I am sure that the timing chain has much slop in it. But it is still running strong. The revious owner took care of it as do I.
The thing is when you buy used you really don't know the history unless the person can show you proof.
But if it test drives and runs good and looks good inside and out then it may be worth getting for $1000. You could also ask if you can take it to a shop for a pre purchase inspection. Might cost you 1-2 hours labor though.
Say the shop charges you $150 and all is good. Then you only paid $1150 and the extra is worth the peace of mind.
If the owner aasures you its all fine and the shop finds a major issue(s) then make the owner first agree to pay you back for the inspection or pay for at least half. Or even have the owner pay for the inspection, or half, and if its fine then pay then they can add that to the purchase price.
There are many ways to work that out in a deal. Just if you're not sure about it then you might want to get an inspection done.
