Default 305 to lt1

Ok, heres my question guys. I have a 97' Gmc sierra 4x4, 5 sp with the stock 305 v8 with 128,xxx miles on it. Now, when this engine decides to go would the lt1 outta my 97 z be a good fit since i was figureing on putting a new ls1 in it anyways?

It's going to fit, but you'll need an LT1 PCM and I'm sure you're going to need some other things as well. Motor swaps never go as easily as you would like to think.

wouldn't the current one from the z work? The only thing i'm really worried about is the z is with a 6 speed tranny..the 305 has a 5 sp..?

The computer shouldn't really care how many speeds you have, although the wiring harness on the 5sp. might be different from the T56.
