well that was stupid...
not my words...some people believe that some things are safe that really aren't...for example, woods are not safe to drive fast in, no matter if the road is straight or if it's day or night...

Tires blow out, animals run out...

That is all, just wanted to point out that some justifications were not justified, not trying to be a ****

I've done stupid ****, I've grown up on machines all my life but that does not make it ok...I've made a 2.5 hr trip in 1 hr, that was dumb, there was no traffic visible but that does not mean i was not endangering others

Well anyway, the dumbest race I have been in was in my '95 Z28. I was crusing through a small town in the Florida panhandle one saturday afternoonwhere I live and this guy and his buddy in an old fully restored and suped up Vette start messin with me. We get up to a red light behind some other traffic and he keeps glancing at me and punching it behind people just trying poke the bear I guess. Anyway he is obviously trying to impress his friend and really ticking me off so I decide to get behind him and see whether or not he has any guts. There are a crap load of cops in the panhandle no matter what city you are in and it is just about SUICIDAL to your driver's license to race anyone in public. Well weare slowly rolling up to a well known highway intersection to a redlight and it turns green with both of us rolling at about 15-20 and he stomps it. After I realize he is trying to race me I stomp it and follow him through traffic till about 85-90 andcatch upto his back bumper but I got scared and quickly slowed down and ducked off the highway and went home. This was probably the dumbest thing I have ever done in my life and I am truly ashamed. I was excited that I showed a Vette but dumb founded I did that. Needed my butt torn up really.

i wasn't in this race because i'm NOT RETARDED...but last year some guys decided to do a race on a seldom used stretch of highway. the stretch they used was exactly a quarter mile. one guy was driving a 96 SS and i have no idea what the other guy was driving. well lets say the camaro ended up winning the race but he lost his life in the proces...oh yeah...did i mention their finish line WAS A RAILROAD CROSSING? he hit the train and totaled his car. my dad called me about 5 mins after the race thinking it was me cause i have a 97 SS. i know racing through woods isn't smart at all...but who has their finish line be a railroad track?

man that stinks. Stuff like that happens around here all the time so I am trying to become more of a safe driver and not race anywhere but the dragstrip. We have high school kids around here killing themselves and others doing stupid stuff like that all the time. I am sure eventually Florida's laws against street racing will be just as strict as California's soon.

Can't says I've been in a street race (in the whopping three weeks I've have my 'maro) but today I got pretty scared. Intersections here in the smart state of AZ, give you the green arrow to turn left first, before cross traffic can go. So, I roll out to turn, while cross traffic is still at a red. And then I see a BMW start pulling forward on the opposing lane. So I stomp on it and fishtail out of there a bit, I'm fine, and my car's fine but I was scared. Scared scared scared scared scared.

hmm...wow, some pretty intense stories in here. I can't say I've ever had a dangerous/stupid street race. The only times I've been on it up to about 80 from a red light on a straight stretch of road without crossroads when we were the first 2 cars at the light. Then either I got taken or the other guy did...that's about it...

That's why I always let off around that point, and I have my eyes glued to the road for any sneaky cops...oh, and I have a radar detector, but I'm deathly afraid of the Fuzz as well, that's why I almost never get on it in my car, it's so damn loud that any cop within a 1/4 mile would come right on over to see what's up.

I street raced a near stock (headers, etc.) 327 '68 Camaro knowing it hadan unrepairedfactory defect/recall about the motor mounts and throttle linkage (a motor mount would break, causing the motor to rotate slightly, jamming the throttle cable wide open).

Of course it happened when I was racing on the street, luckily in first gear just after a take off. The car did a double 360, the first one ahead of and around the car I was racing, the next into a curb, ruining a rear wheel and hub (and embarrassing the drive no end).
