supercharged gtp or a 74 cam 350 vortec?
ok right now my buddy just keeps doggin on my car. wont give it any respect so after my new motor is all broke in we are going to race his 2004 supercharged gtp and my newly rebuilt 350 vortec. he will be pushing out 260 hp and 280 tq. and he only weights 3,477. now my car just having the motor finished up. i put the vortec heads back on just polished up, the lifters internals are all the same as before except the cam is 496 intake 510 exhaust. new transmission for harder shifts. dont have posi so im only gonna have one tire spinning. not sure on my rearend havnt check it out yet but its nothing that strong. but i know he is going to run low 15's but before my car was running like crap and ran a 17 even but now i have a tune up done. a little polish job and the new cam just wondering if i stand a chance in hell or not?

if you have a good intake (which almost have to have a decent one because of the vortec heads) a good carb and ignition system you should be making 275-300hp minimum as long as your heads are L31 Vortec heads (only 8 intake bolts 4 per side going straight up and down) and not the old TBI Swirl port heads that people like to claim are vortecs). the L31 Vortec heads are the best flowing production cast heads period. they even outflow most aftermarket cast heads and several aluminum heads. those heads are easy to make power with , and horse power is made in the heads and camshaft. another thing you mentioned is the cam speaks...a true Vortec engine has a roller cam and the valve springs will not hold more than .450 lift because the springs bind (they all get stacked and can compress no more) , with LS1 springs you can run .550 lift and then the rocker hits the guide with stock spring pockets.
