Thats good if you have the computer, but for the older trans with out the shift kits it's faster to do it your self.

 

well if ur normal driving then yes let the computer shift the car.

but if ur racing then u wanna shift it ur self so that u can get most of the gear.

If you have a "newer" car, then leave it in drive.

The 95 Camaro uses the computer controlled 4L60E transmission. At WOT the computer will shift the transmission tothe next gearat a presetRPM. It does not matter in which forward gear the stick is held in. This avoids damaging the engine by over revving, andsets the shift points for best acceleration.

 

I knew you weren't supposed to shift it.

manually shifting an auto car = super dumb

and you can't stall the 4L60E's stock convertor past 1750 RPMs....

There are several small things you should establish on the streetbefore going to the strip. Start with a couple of burn outs to check your tire pattern. You may have to run as much as 30 pounds with older polyglass tires in order to get a full width pattern. Heat the tires a least once before launching the car. Practice holding your foot on the brake and torquing the motor against the brake before launching.
This will give you a feel for what ever surface your racing on. Ultimately you will need to learn the feel of your car so that you will be ready for the strip.
