It will wear out your clutch faster because there will be more slipping, although if you get it right you should be able to minimize that. You're asking about launching here, not how to prolong the life of your clutch...

I suppose it is always safe to check...but you can drive a car two ways (well, maybe three).
You can drive it hard and break it.
You can baby it and not break it.
I guess you can drive it kinda hard and only break some things (maybe like going through clutches faster eh?). In all actuality a smoother launch is going to be better on the rest of the drive train because it will "gradually" load the rest of the drive train instead of smacking it into a loaded state. It will be harder on the clutch, but you can decide which one is less expensive...
