Charger
This is just what i know that they are rated at, you make the decision after that. I have never seen the two V6s go at it, but I have ran the 5.7 Hemi in my SS lets just say the my Chevy won. I need to say though that it was only twice that we ran so Im not going to say for sure that the SS is faster, def need to race a little more of them to find out. And i have never stepped up to a 6.1L... no yet anyway..
V6 3.8 Camaro SS Camaro
-200hp/225tq -320hp/345tq
-Curb Weight about 3400lbs -3500lbs
V6 2.7 Charger 5.7 Hemi 6.1 Hemi
-190hp/190tq (the 3.5=250hp) -340hp/390tq -425hp/420tq
-curb wieght around 3900lbs -4100lbs -4200lbs
V6 3.8 Camaro SS Camaro
-200hp/225tq -320hp/345tq
-Curb Weight about 3400lbs -3500lbs
V6 2.7 Charger 5.7 Hemi 6.1 Hemi
-190hp/190tq (the 3.5=250hp) -340hp/390tq -425hp/420tq
-curb wieght around 3900lbs -4100lbs -4200lbs
Those numbers sound pretty good to me. And yea the 2.7 wouldnt really do much aginst the camaro's 3.8. The 2.7 Charger weights more, puts out less trq & less HP. They put the same 2.7l in the 2nd gen sebrings and it wasent very fast. I think the 3.5 charger vs the 3.8 camaro could get very instressting. Yes the charger does have 250 HP, however it hits that at 6400RPM. compared to the camaro who hits it at 5200RPM. So the camaro will get its max power alot sooner. The charger gets 250trq at 3800rpm were as the camaro gets 225 trq at 4000 rpms. So they get their max trq about the same time, but the charger has a little more. But it also weights more. Its a drivers race for sure. But in a heads up race with equal drivers i would take the camaro, dont forget to factor in aerodynamics & things like that also.
the SS should take any 5.7l hemi chargers. But i dunno about the 6.1L. Those things are mean. thats a race i would like too se

I have't run one but I did rent a 2.7 Charger for a day, it was probably the slowest thing I've ever driven. It has nothing on the low end, any 3.8 will smoke it out of the hole, it picks up a little in the higher rpms but it's still slow. I could not get it to spin the tires no matter what I did, it hardly did it in gravel. I'd think the 3.8 should take the 3.5 Charger also. The 340hp Hemi only run mid 14's.
Idrove the 3.5 charger as a rental and i could get it to spin a little bit...it was kinda quick but top end was fun. I think they came with around 250 hp. I was late for a Yankees pre season game and going from Port Charlotte to Tampa and I was driving at 100+ till Tampa on rt 75. I am 6'1 and that car had the most leg room have seen.
Despite it's lack of power I liked driving it, maybe just because it was brand new and it's nice to drive something different(not that I don't like driving the Camaro). It was also nice to have a trunk and big backseat. But even for being a 2.7 V6 and brand new it got worse gas mileage than my 3.8 with 99,000 miles on it.
How do you guys think the 2.7 would match up against a 3.4? We have'nt thrown the 3.4 in... so lets see what ya think!
The 3.4 got 160hp and 200tq... right, but also wieghs less! Less hp and more torque. I think my car the way it is... would take one! Lets get some more opinions!
